The recent death of Norman Mailer has inspired me to follow through on an idea I began toying with a few months ago. Nearly two years after abandoning my doctoral dissertation, I've decided to go digging through the rubble to see if anything is worth salvaging. In St. Norman's honor, I'll probably start with the Mailer stuff and then look at Arthur Miller, Tony Kushner, and Philip Roth, though not necessarily in that order. I'd guess there's about 15,000 words rotting on my hard drive, some of them written nearly five years ago. On a first glance, I'm tempted to say that, at the very least, it doesn't all suck.
